Congo

The Congregation of Our Lady in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Education: a treasure concealed within

Our setting

The Democratic Republic of Congo :
one of the largest countries on the African continent :
• a country riddled with great poverty (80% of the population is living below the bread line).
• the standard of living is not in proportion to the country’s vast natural resources.

In the Democratic Republic of Congo

Salaries and welfare benefits are minimal throughout the country.

Over ten years ago, the State relinquished responsibility for education. Parents must now pay for their children’s schooling.

The country is run by a system riddled with corruption, lies, cheating, theft and many other problems.

Our educational work lies in organising :

Groups for children and young people: Legion of Mary, Kiro, Scouts, Youth of Light...

School is the highest priority.

The value and importance of an intellectual formation.

Opportunities for Christians to gather in their home communities :

• Sharing the Word of God
• Living the realities of the Church, as a family of God
• Supporting couples preparing for marriage

Groups for women in rural settings :

Literacy and catch-up classes, community centre.

Formation of Catechists

Working with Associates :

Giving help to prisoners

In the service of life :

Hospital in Kindondja

Visiting the sick

Education means :

Welcoming and nurturing life, helping others become aware of their own dignity.

And the Lord will ask you: “WHERE IS YOUR BROTHER?”

Growing.

Being a woman in the world and in the Church

A land to till, a country to consecrate

I refuse to believe that present circumstances render men incapable of creating a better land.

I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality.

I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality.

Life, even temporarily defeated, remains stronger than death.

I firmly believe there is still hope for a brighter tomorrow.

Martin Luther King.

Little souls beyond compare, I love you more than anything.
