Pray for 15 days with Pierre Fourier
by Sr Marie-Alexia Nguyen
Pierre Fourier (1565-1640) is a saint from Lorraine, an apostle passionate about Jesus Christ and men to whom he offers a path of holiness accessible to all.
A pioneer in the renewal of the Church after the Council of Trent, he chose to be parish priest of Mattaincourt, in the Vosges, where he exercised his ministry for forty years. He has renewed spiritual life, also taking care of the social life and justice of this parish. He was the reformer of the Order of Canons Regular of Notre-Sauveur and with Alix Le Clerc, he undertook the founding of the Congregation of Notre-Dame for the free education of little girls.
Talented letter writer, he took care to write to all those who wished to put themselves under his direction: nuns of the Congrégation Notre-Dame, the canons regular of Notre-Sauveur, the nobles of the ducal household, diplomats, the inhabitants of Mirecourt ...
Influential advisor of the Dukes of Lorraine, his policy hardly pleased Richelieu, which forced him to go into exile in Gray, in Haute-Saône, where he died at the age of 75.
